Slow Cooker Beef and Barley Stew
A slow cooker is nice to come home to and the ideal appliance for cooking less tender but flavourful cuts of meat. Barley, a good source of fibre, thickens the stew without the need for flour. Serve this warming comfort food over mashed potatoes or with thick slabs of crusty whole-grain bread.
Cajun Poached Shrimp Linguine
Spicy Cajun flavours kick up this easy cream sauce for added smoothness to the heat of the dish. Look for smoked sausages where they sell bacon and other deli meats in the grocery store.
Lazy Lasagna in a Bowl
Watching Emily Richards make this caused us to have to run out and try it! Super simple and easy, give it a whirl, we bet it will become a family whip-up favourite!
Hearty classic flavours of a lasagna dish fill this soup to create a delicious comfort food recipe. Thick and chunky, once this hot soup is poured over top of the cheese, each spoonful will remind you of the gooey texture and flavour of your mom’s lasagna.
Golden Balls with Sweet Walnut Paste
Enjoy these traditional, golden balls when warm to truly taste the rich, savoury, flavour of the sweet walnut paste. These are ridiculously delicious and sticky thanks to the glutinous rice flour that you can find in the Asian markets. Perfect for the Chinese New Year as a treat. The expansion of the balls as they cook represents good luck and prosperity. If you eat 3 does that mean you'll have 3 times the luck?? We made them and cooked the next morning after letting them sit at room temperature and they worked great.
Chocolate Pot de Creme
This ridiculously delicious and easy dessert is a perfect finish to any meal. Minutes to prep and only 18 minutes in the oven with an hour or so in the fridge means you can whip it up and have it ready for after dinner. They can also be made a couple days in advance! We have under-baked, over-baked and done to perfection-guess what??? They are delicious every way, so it's just a matter of personal preference:)
Creamy Cranberry Rice Pudding
This is a super easy comfort food and you don't even need leftover rice:) The arborio rice (Italian style rice) starchy and makes it creamy tasting but uses only 1% milk. Perfect for lunch boxes! Use the 1/2 cup mason jars, they are awesome for snack sized treats and they don't leak.
